Nation’s second-largest physician organization names new publisher

American College of Physician’s publishing properties include Annals of Internal Medicine

PHILADELPHIA, February 21, 2013 -- The American College of Physicians (ACP) has named Diane Scott-Lichter as publisher to direct the strategic planning, sales, and operations for all ACP print and digital publishing properties.
 
ACP is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States. ACP members include 133,000 internal medicine physicians (internists), related subspecialists, and medical students. Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness.
 
“With a career encompassing both scholarly journals and commercial publications for professional and consumer audiences, Diane is exceptionally qualified to lead the development and implementation of new and innovative approaches to disseminate ACP’s print and digital scientific and educational resources,”  said Steven E. Weinberger, MD, FACP, Chief Executive Officer and EVP, ACP.
 
ACP’s print and digital publishing properties includes Annals of Internal Medicine, one of the five most widely cited peer-reviewed medical journals in the world; ACP Internist, ACP Hospitalist; ACP Diabetes Monthly; ACP’s Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program  (MKSAP); ACP Journal Club; ACP JournalWise; and clinical and educational mobile apps, webinars, videos, and books.
 
Prior to joining ACP, Scott-Lichter served as publisher for the American Association for Cancer Research for nearly five years. Previously, she was senior director of publications for The Endocrine Society and the publisher of medical journals for Blackwell Publishing in Malden, Mass., where she was responsible for developing a global medical journal acquisition strategy. Scott-Lichter was also publisher for the American Cancer Society and held journal publishing positions at Elsevier Science Inc., and the American Chemical Society.
 
A former president of the Council of Science Editors, Scott-Lichter is North American editor for Learned Publishing, the peer-reviewed journal of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers and has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of American Publishers' Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division. She has served as vice-chair of the American Heart Association's Scientific Publishing Committee and has been a member of the board of the Society for Scholarly Publishing.
 
Scott-Lichter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Maryland and a Master's degree from New York University.
