Video: A Visit to the Rodale General Store
The publisher has found in recent years that small-town familiarity brings with it a certain… casualness. According to the Allentown Morning Call, people kept showing up at corporate headquarters, which is not open to the public, requesting books, magazine and other Rodale products. So, what do you do in this situation if you're a hometown publisher? Why, you open a store.
The Rodale General Store opened just before Christmas, offering food for the body, mind and soul—as well as fun company memorabilia. A visitor might even get to meet Heidi Rodale, a board member of the still family-owned company, who is there most days.
Publishing Executive paid the store a visit in March to ask Rodale about the new retail venture and what it says about the company's relationship with its audience.
